Parking Signs FAQs

What types of parking signs do you carry?

We carry MUTCD-compliant parking signs across four categories:

  • No Parking signs restrict parking in specific areas. Includes No Parking (R8-3A), No Parking Any Time (R7-1), No Parking Fire Lane (R7-200), No Parking Loading Zone (R7-6), and directional arrow variants.
  • Reserved and permissive parking signs designate spaces for specific uses. Includes Reserved Parking (R7-326), Visitor Parking (R7-330), Employee Parking (R7-341), and other permissive legends.
  • Accessible parking signs meet ADA and MUTCD requirements for disabled parking spaces. Includes Reserved Parking with the international symbol of accessibility (R7-8) and Van Accessible variants.
  • Private property signs control access on private lots. Includes No Trespassing, No Loitering, Do Not Block Drive, and No Vehicles Beyond This Point.
What size parking sign do I need?

Parking sign sizes depend on the application:

  • 12" x 18" is the standard size for most parking lot and facility signs. This is the most commonly ordered size for no parking, reserved, and private property applications.
  • 18" x 24" provides better visibility for high-traffic lots, multi-level garages, and roadside installations.
  • 24" x 30" is used for larger roadside applications or where greater visibility is needed.

The MUTCD specifies 12" x 18" as the standard size for R7-series parking signs on conventional roads. Larger sizes can be used anywhere greater emphasis is needed.

Which reflective sheeting should I choose for parking signs?

We offer two sheeting options on parking signs:

High Intensity Prismatic (HIP) meets ASTM D4956 Type IV. This is the standard choice for most parking sign installations. It provides strong nighttime reflectivity and meets the requirements of nearly all municipalities and property management standards.

Diamond Grade (DG3) meets ASTM D4956 Type XI and returns nearly twice the light of HIP. Choose DG3 for signs on busy roadways, poorly lit areas, or locations where maximum nighttime visibility is critical.

For parking lots and private facilities, HIP is the most common and cost-effective choice. DG3 is typically specified for signs installed along public roadways.

Do you offer custom parking signs?

We carry a wide selection of standard MUTCD parking legends. If you need a custom legend, special wording, or a sign not listed in our current catalog, email your requirements to support@roadsigns.com. Include the legend text, desired size, and quantity, and we will provide a quote.

How do I mount my parking sign?

All parking signs come pre-punched with mounting holes for standard post installation. The most common mounting methods:

  • U-channel sign posts are the standard for roadside and lot perimeter installations. Signs attach with sign mounting brackets or bolts through the pre-punched holes.
  • Square tube posts offer a cleaner look for commercial properties and private facilities.
  • Cast iron pedestal bases are a portable option for parking lots where ground mounting is not possible. Available in 14" bases that hold 12" x 18", 18" x 24", and 24" x 24" sign panels.

Posts, brackets, and bases are sold separately. Browse our Sign Posts collection for compatible options, or contact us for help choosing the right setup.
