What Is a Flock Camera?
Flock Safety cameras are automated license plate readers, commonly called ALPRs or LPRs. They can be found near roads, intersections, neighborhood entrances, parking areas, and other locations where vehicles pass.
These systems capture vehicle information that can be searched by authorized users. Depending on the system, recorded information can include a vehicle's license plate, make, model, color, location, and the time it passed the camera.
Flock cameras are used by law enforcement agencies as well as private communities and businesses.
Flock's Own Numbers Over Time

The publicly stated size of the network jumped from roughly 100,000 cameras in late-June 2026 news reports to the company's own figure of more than 120,000 less than a month later.
The current 120,000+ figure appears in a single sentence of a sales-oriented blog post aimed at law enforcement buyers, not in a standing statistics page. Company marketing pages change over time, which is why this article records each claim with its date.
Flock Dominates the Mapped ALPR Network
Flock is by far the most commonly identified manufacturer in the July 2026 mapping data. Of 116,084 mapped automated license plate readers of all brands, 95,923 are identified as Flock cameras.

Flock alone accounts for approximately 83% of the mapped total, roughly five out of every six ALPR cameras identified by brand.
That does not necessarily mean Flock has the same market share among every ALPR camera installed in the country. Some manufacturers may be easier for contributors to recognize, and mapping activity varies significantly between different parts of the country.
How Fast Is the Mapped ALPR Network Growing?
The historical growth data includes all mapped ALPR cameras, not only Flock cameras.
Only 450 cameras in the current dataset had been mapped by the end of 2023. The total reached 4,549 by the end of 2024 before increasing sharply during 2025 and the first seven months of 2026.

The largest monthly increase in the dataset came in November 2025, when 11,300 camera locations were added to the map. June 2026 was close behind with another 11,139.

Historical totals reflect when camera locations were added to OpenStreetMap. They should not be interpreted as camera installation dates.
During that period, 98,548 camera locations were added to the map.
This does not mean nearly 100,000 new cameras were physically installed during those months. The increase also reflects the rapid growth of the crowdsourced mapping effort and the addition of cameras that may already have been operating before someone documented them.
Why the Exact Number of Flock Cameras Is Difficult to Know
There is no complete public registry listing every Flock camera installed in the United States. Flock reports a network total but does not publish the camera locations behind it, so the company's figure cannot be independently audited.
DeFlock provides the largest publicly accessible location-based check on that figure, but its data is crowdsourced. Contributors identify cameras and add their locations to OpenStreetMap.
That creates several limitations.
- Unmapped cameras are not included. Areas with active contributors may be mapped much more thoroughly than areas where fewer people participate.
- Mapping dates are not installation dates. A camera may have been operating for months or years before someone added it to the map.
- The sources have different update dates. New installations may be reflected in Flock's total before anyone finds and maps them.
- Crowdsourced data can contain errors. Cameras may be incorrectly identified, relocated, removed, or remain mapped after they are no longer operating.
For those reasons, 120,000+ should be read as Flock's unverified claim about its own network, and 95,923 as the number of Flock cameras independently verified as of July 17, 2026.
Where Are Flock Cameras Located?
The national map shows mapped ALPR cameras spread throughout the United States, with large concentrations around many metropolitan areas and major road networks.
However, the density of mapped cameras should not be treated as a direct ranking of which cities or states have the most cameras. It also reflects how thoroughly different areas have been surveyed by contributors.

Open the DeFlock map and search for an address, city, or ZIP code. You can then zoom into the surrounding area to view known ALPR camera locations that contributors have mapped.
Because the database is crowdsourced, the absence of a mapped camera does not necessarily mean there is no camera at that location.

The independently verified figure comes from RoadSigns.com's analysis of camera location data mapped by DeFlock and OpenStreetMap contributors. The dataset used for this analysis contained 116,084 mapped ALPR camera locations of all brands as of July 17, 2026, including 95,923 identified as Flock Safety cameras.
The company-claimed figure comes from Flock Safety's July 24, 2026 blog post stating that its network includes more than 120,000 cameras across 49 states. Flock does not publish the locations behind that total, so it cannot be independently audited.
The verification rate of about 80% divides the verified count (95,923) by the claimed count (120,000). Because Flock states "more than" 120,000, the unverified portion of roughly 24,000 cameras is a minimum, and the true verification rate may be slightly lower.
Monthly and annual growth figures cover all mapped ALPR cameras, not only Flock cameras. They are based on when camera records were added to the mapping dataset and should not be interpreted as installation dates.
