Low Shoulder Construction Sign W8-9

After an overlay or shoulder excavation, the travel lane can sit a few inches above the shoulder. The MUTCD uses the orange W8-9 where that edge drop is 3 inches or less, and the Shoulder Drop Off sign (W8-17) for anything deeper. Black LOW SHOULDER legend on an orange retroreflective background, per MUTCD Part 6.

Four sizes are currently available. The 30" x 30" sits between the 24" x 24" minimum for slow local streets and the 36" x 36" standard. The 36" x 36" is the standard work zone size for conventional roads. The 48" x 48" is for freeways and expressways. The 24" x 24" is that minimum size, for slow local streets. Sign post, mounting hardware, and brackets are sold separately.
