The S1-1 warns drivers of a school crossing ahead where children may be entering the roadway. Black school children crossing symbol on a fluorescent yellow-green retroreflective background. Required under MUTCD Part 7 at or in advance of designated school crossings. This is the current MUTCD replacement for the older S2-1 School Advance Crossing sign.

Three sizes are available. The 30" x 30" is for single-lane roads. The 36" x 36" is for multi-lane roads. The 48" x 48" is for expressways and enhanced conspicuity. Fluorescent yellow-green sheeting is required for all school zone warning signs per MUTCD. Commonly paired with the School Plaque (S4-3P), Ahead Plaque (W16-9P), or Diagonal Down Arrow Plaque (W16-7PL/PR). Sign post, mounting hardware, and brackets are sold separately. 48" signs ship truck freight.
