Alt Route Marker Plaque M4-1a

The short form of the ALTERNATE plaque. ALT has the same meaning and use, and with only three letters it can be printed much larger on the same plate, which helps on fast roads. Code M4-1a, or M4-1aP in the 2023 MUTCD.

Three letters leave room for very large type even on the 24" x 12" plate, and the 30" x 15" and oversized 36" x 18" plates make ALT bigger still. Sign post, mounting hardware, and brackets are sold separately.
