The W7-1 warns of a steep downgrade ahead, where trucks and other heavy vehicles may need a lower gear to control their speed. A percent grade or distance plaque can be added below it. Black hill symbol on a yellow retroreflective background, per MUTCD Chapter 2C.

Four sizes are currently available. The 24" x 24" is the minimum size, for low-volume roads posted at 30 MPH or less. The 30" x 30" is the standard size for single-lane conventional roads. The 36" x 36" is for multi-lane roads, expressways and freeways. The 48" x 48" is oversized for enhanced conspicuity. Sign post, mounting hardware, and brackets are sold separately.
