The W1-11L warns of a hairpin curve to the left, where the road changes direction by 135 degrees or more. Chevrons on the outside of the bend help drivers judge it at night. Black hairpin curve symbol on a yellow retroreflective background, per MUTCD Chapter 2C.

Five sizes are currently available. The 30" x 30" is the standard size for conventional roads. The 36" x 36" is for expressways. The 48" x 48" is for freeways, or oversized for enhanced conspicuity. On private mountain drives or campus roads, the extra 24" x 24" and 18" x 18" sizes can be used, as both are below the MUTCD minimum for public roads. Sign post, mounting hardware, and brackets are sold separately.
