The W8-7 warns that the road surface ahead is covered with loose gravel that can reduce traction and throw stones. Common on chip-sealed, unpaved and freshly graded roads. Black LOOSE GRAVEL legend on a yellow retroreflective background, per MUTCD Chapter 2C.

Five sizes are currently available. The 24" x 24" is the minimum size, for low-volume roads posted at 30 MPH or less. The 30" x 30" is for single-lane roads. The 36" x 36" is the standard size for conventional roads and the minimum for multi-lane roads. The 48" x 48" is oversized for enhanced conspicuity. For a gravel driveway or private lot, an 18" x 18" is also offered; it is smaller than the MUTCD minimum for public roads. Sign post, mounting hardware, and brackets are sold separately.
