Soft Shoulder Construction Sign W8-4

Fresh fill, trenching or shoulder rebuilding can leave the edge of the road too soft to carry a vehicle. The orange W8-4 warns drivers not to pull off onto it while the work is under way. Black SOFT SHOULDER legend on an orange retroreflective background, per MUTCD Part 6.

Four sizes are currently available. The 30" x 30" is the MUTCD minimum, allowed only on low-volume rural roads, local streets and roads with operating speeds of 30 MPH or less. The 36" x 36" is the standard work zone size for conventional roads. The 48" x 48" is for freeways and expressways. A 24" x 24" is offered as well for private haul roads, under the MUTCD minimum for public roads. Sign post, mounting hardware, and brackets are sold separately.
