The OM1-1 marks an object that sits inside the roadway, like a bridge pier between lanes or the approach end of a median island. It is a yellow diamond fitted with nine round yellow plastic reflectors that return headlight beams to the driver. Under the MUTCD, Type 1 markers are only for obstructions within the road, not for objects beside it.

This marker comes in 18" x 18", the smallest diamond the MUTCD allows for Type 1, with High Intensity Prismatic or Diamond Grade DG3 sheeting. When the object is in the road or within 8 feet of the shoulder or curb, mount the marker so its bottom edge is at least 4 feet above the near edge of the traveled way.
