The W4-3R tells through traffic that a road or ramp enters from the right with an added lane of its own. Drivers already on the road keep their lane, and the entering vehicles do not need to find a gap. Black added lane symbol on a yellow retroreflective background, per MUTCD Chapter 2C.

Five sizes are currently available. The 30" x 30" is the minimum size, for single-lane roads. The 36" x 36" is the standard size for conventional roads and the minimum for multi-lane roads. The 48" x 48" is for expressways and freeways. For private merges such as a plant entrance or parking lot exit, 24" x 24" and 18" x 18" are also offered, both under the MUTCD minimum. Sign post, mounting hardware, and brackets are sold separately.
